The China green card has just been implemented by the Chinese government. This is an immigration approval system similar to that in the United States with the U.S. Permanent Residence Card. The Chinese green card allows foreign individuals to apply for permanent residence in China.
The criteria for approval is restricted to foreigners who are considered by the Chinese Ministry of Security to be high profile and in a position to have a positive financial impact on the country. This can be defined as a financial investment of large proportion, or unique expertise that can have a positive financial or economic effect on the country and the people of China.
The card holder will be able to reside in China indefinitely. They will not be subject to the rules and regulations limiting movement of individuals, from one part of the country to another. Non-Chinese card holders will be free to seek work anywhere within the country. However, the green card is not in any way equivalent to being a Chinese national. China will not recognize dual citizenship, therefore to become a Chinese citizen you must revoke your original nationality.
Green card holders will no longer need visas if they hold a valid passport. Chinese green cards will be valid for 5 years for children and 10 years for adults. Although there is a great deal of migration to and from China each year, officials are not expecting large numbers of individuals to qualify for this card.
Although geared mainly towards high profile business executives, other groups can also qualify for the green card. Professionals who can demonstrate an ability to promote scientific, technological, social and/or economic progress will be actively recruited. In addition, any foreigner who has contributed in an outstanding manner or is of special importance to China will be considered.
Finally, foreigners who wish to be reunited with family members can also apply. Each of these groups must meet specific requirements laid out by the Chinese immigration service. Applications can be obtained by contacting the Public Security Bureau in you local area in China.
All applicants must receive a health examination at the state level, and be without a criminal record. They are expected to abide by Chinese law. You should live in China not less than 3 months a year of one year out of every five to qualify.
The implementation of the China green card is viewed by many global economists as a positive step by the government towards active participation in the global economic community.
