greencardThe green card renewal form is also known as the form I-90 or the Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card. To retain a valid green card, you will need to submit a completed application with the required documentation and fees. Keeping a valid green card will keep from interruption in employment or residency issues.

To allow for adequate processing time, you will need to submit the Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card six months prior to the card expiration date.

Individuals residing in the United States that have a conditional green card should submit alternative applications instead of the form I-90. Conditional cardholders that obtained green card status through marriage should submit the form I-751. If you received your green card through a financial investment in a United States based business, you should file form I-829.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will only accept legal copies of these forms or printable copies from their website.

You can get the necessary forms by calling the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Office at 1-800-870-3676 or through their website. You can find forms and other information on immigration procedures by calling the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.

All green card applications and forms must be completed using black ink; a signature is also required.

Your prior green card or proof of identity is required when applying for a replacement or renewal card. A copy of your current green card may be submitted if your card has expired or will expire within six months. A copy of your card or other proof of identity is required if you are replacing a lost, stolen or damaged card.

Proper documentation is required when submitting a name change or change in biographical information.

A $290.00 filing fee and an $80.00 Biometrics fee are required when submitting the completed application. Mail all paper I-90 forms to: USCIS, P.O. Box 21262, Phoenix, Arizona 85036. Consult the application directions for instruction on how to mail through USPS Express Mail or Courier delivery services. Electronic filing and fee collection is also available online through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

The processing office may request an interview after the application is initially processed. They may also request additional information or documentation at this time.

They will make a decision after reviewing the application and interview process. If approved for a renewal, they will issue you a Permanent Resident Card and mail it to you. You will receive a letter of explanation by mail should your application for renewal be denied. By taking the time and filling out the green card renewal form correctly, you can expect to receive your card in a timely manner.
