US passports, only $99. Same Day Service

us-passport4Navigating through how to renew US passport, the process of application and passport renewal, can be lengthy and tiresome if not properly handled. Here are some of the basic procedures for Passport application.

When to apply: Generally, the processing time for a passport is about 4-6 weeks. This shortens to about 2-3 weeks for expedited service. However, it would be best to start applying about 8-10 weeks before the actual traveling date, in order to prevent any delays from ruining the trip.

Cost of application: The total cost of application would be a $100 for adults and $85 for minors under the age of 16.

How to apply: The first step would be to locate the nearest passport agency. The easiest way to do this would be to look up the Department of State website, or search a phonebook under the government section. An application form must be complete - this can be found either, again, on the website, or available at some of these agencies.

Some photocopies of documents must be attached to the application form. The first would be the evidence of US citizenship, such as your birth certificate, Naturalization Certificate, or Certificate of Citizenship. Next would be a photocopy of an identification that you will present when applying for your passport in person. This includes your driver's license, government ID or military ID.

Finally, you must bring along two passport photographs. Strict guidelines must be adhered to. The photographs must be 2x2 inches, identical and taken within the last 6 months. It must be full faced and should not have any obscuring objects, such as hats, dark glasses or items that are not usually worn. The photograph should be against a white background.

With these documents, an application can be lodged. Be sure to put in a valid mailing address so that the passport can be sent to you.

Applying in person: This should be done if you are applying for your first passport, or if the previous passport was issued when you were under 16 years of age. Minors under 16 years old should also make the application in person. If your passport was lost, stolen or damaged, a report should be made to the US Bureau of Consular Affairs, and an application for the new passport should be made in person.

Check the status of your application: The status of the passport application can be done 5-7 days after the application is lodged. This can be done online at www.travel.state.gov.

Passport renewal: An application for renewal can be done through mail if the passport is not your first one, and you are not a minor. To do so, complete the application form online, print it and mail it with your previous passport, two passport photographs and $75 passport fees in a padded envelope to the address listed on the form.

Once you're done ensuring that your passport is in order, you can begin to plan and anticipate your adventures on your holiday ahead.
