nigeriaflagAll individuals wishing to travel to Nigeria should first obtain the necessary documents required for entry and exit of that country. All visitors, with the exception of citizens from neighboring African states, are required to have a valid passport and Nigeria visa.

You must hold a valid passport before you can apply for a visa for Nigeria. The passport must be valid for more than six months beyond the date you expect to depart the country.

Many types of Nigerian visas available; these visas include those for transit, visitor, or tourist purposes. Other types of visas for Nigeria include education, business, religion, and temporary work visas.

All visa applications, no matter the type, require that you provide certain documentation. You must show financial stability or proof of other arrangements for support while staying in Nigeria. This could include bank statements or a letter from hosts who will be providing lodging and financial support during your visit.

You are required to show vaccination records for yellow fever before being issued a Nigerian visa. You may also be required to attend an interview in order to receive a visa.

For transit, visitor or tourist visas, you will need to submit an itinerary or proof of round-trip airline tickets. A recent picture of the applicant, copy of hotel reservations and transit information must be included for these types of applications.

Applications for children should also include a birth certificate with both of the parent's names. If the parents of the child are Nigerian, copies of the parent's passports will be required.

Religious, business or education visas require the same documentation as listed above. To receive a visa for one of these purposes, an applicant must also include a letter from the employer, host or school sponsoring the individual. Approval from the Ministry of Internal Affairs must be supplied to receive a visa for religious purposes.

Temporary work permit (TWP) visas require one passport photo, approval letter for the TWP, and an invitation letter from the business stating the reason for your trip. A letter for sponsorship should also be included.

A Subject to Regulation (STR) visa can be obtained by supplying completed application forms with quadruplicate copies of each, four passport photos, approval letter from Nigeria for STR, and four legalized copies of your certificates and credentials. Four copies of your letter of employment, four copies of the letter of acceptance, and four copies of your marriage certificate plus your birth certificate are also required for issuance of an STR visa.
